The Feast of Agios Ioannis Prodromos offers a magical blend of religious devotion, ancient folk customs, mouthwatering local cuisine, and living tradition—set in a beautiful hillside village under a starlit sky.

Celebrated annually on June 24th, the feast takes place in the picturesque village of Prodromos, centred around the square of Saint Spyridon and the church of Agios Ioannis Prodromos.

Evening Rituals: Klidonas Tradition
On the evening of June 23rd, the festival revives the age-old folk custom of Kleidonas: villagers light bonfires, burn May Day wreaths, and young people leap across flames to ward off evil spirits.

A vespers service and the Divine Liturgy honor Saint John the Baptist, bringing the community together in reverent celebration.

The feast is filled with homemade dishes: revithada (oven-baked chickpeas), karavolo (snails) with skordalia, gouna (sun-dried fish), local cheeses, and more—prepared by village families and shared with residents and visitors alike.

Music, Dance & Community Spirit
After the church ceremonies, traditional folk music and dancing light up the evening. Performances by local dance groups, communal songs, and spirited village dances continue late into the night.

A Time-Honored Village Celebration
Organized by the local church, cultural associations, and residents, the feast is an authentic immersion into Parian mountain-life traditions, celebrating faith, folklore, and the bonds of community.
