“Birds Have No Cliffs” (Γκρεμό δεν έχουν τα πουλιά)
A musical-poetic performance, a quiet journey through the musical stories of Loukovikos of Anogia, featuring songs and fairy tales.
A nostalgic tribute to the people who shaped us.
Loudovikos of Anogia emerged in 1985 with the album “Moirologia.” Songs of sorrow, women’s words about the death of loved ones from his mountain village, Anogia in Crete.
Manos Hadjidakis discovered in Loudovikos this unique genre of song that brings you relief by making you sad. For the first time in the history of Crete, Loudovikos, with a mandolin, set the dirges to music and sang them in a unique way. Wherever he performs, the audience weeps. His ability to move people continues to this day.
With the 13 albums he has released so far, always on his solitary path, he writes and sings of love—the kind that remains unseen. He says: “For love, we light two candles, one in remembrance and one in anticipation.”
Manos Hadjidakis said that “Loudovikos is a musical presence. His sound comes from the scent of the Cretan mountains and does not easily flatter emotions. His music is folk, distilled through a fine filter.”
