An Assessment of Past and Recent Research
International Symposium in memory of Demetrius Schilardi
The Mycenaean-early Archaic acropolis of Koukounaries in the bay of Naousa, Paros, was excavated from 1976 to 1992 by Demetrius Schilardi under the auspices of the Archaeological Society at Athens. After the excavator's death in 2020, the Archaeological Society entrusted Professor Alexandros Mazarakis-Ainian with coordinating the researchers involved in 2022 to continue studying and publishing the findings of this long-term research. INSTAP financially supported this effort, while the Ephorate of Antiquities of the Cyclades willingly facilitated the archaeologists' work. Exactly three years later (6-7/6/2026), Professor Mazarakis-Ainian is organising a symposium in Paros in memory of Demetrius Schilardi, at which the results to date will be presented, with the aim of a prompt scientific publication. The symposium is financially supported by the non-profit organisation «ΑΙΓΕΑΣ», the Municipality of Paros, and Blue Star Ferries.
