Paros Wind Festival 2026, "Echoes of Marbles"
From Opera to Greek Song

In the unique natural and historical landscape of the Ancient Quarries of Marathi, where the famous Parian marble came from and travelled throughout the ancient world, the Paros Wind Festival 2026 presents the concert “Echoes of Marbles”, a special musical evening where lyrical art meets Greek song under the starry Aegean sky.

In a place where history, art and nature coexist harmoniously, music becomes a bridge between different eras and cultures. The sounds of opera, operetta and Greek song echo through the ancient quarries, creating a unique experience for the audience.

The evening’s star is the distinguished soprano Katia Paschou, who will perform a programme that combines favourite moments of the European lyrical tradition with timeless songs from the Greek repertoire. Through works that marked different eras and musical paths, the concert highlights the deep relationship of the Mediterranean with music, poetry and emotion.

The special atmosphere of the Ancient Quarries of Marathi, the natural acoustics of the space and its unique historical significance create the ideal setting for a production that highlights the timeless power of music and the cultural wealth of Paros.

Echoes of Marbles is one of the central events of the Paros Wind Festival 2026, connecting artistic creation with the cultural heritage of the island and offering the audience a highly aesthetic experience in one of the most important historical sites in the Cyclades.

The participation of the spectators contributes substantially to the support of a unique cultural heritage monument of Paros and the actions developed for its preservation and promotion.

Ancient Marble Quarries

An extensive complex of quarries for opencast and underground extraction of the famous Parian marble, the so-called Paria Lithos, was developed in Marathi in antiquity (mainly from the 7th century BC onwards). Today it is known that the quarries covered a vast area that included, in addition to the most famous quarries of the Nymphs and Pan, the underground quarries in Spilies, and the areas of surface extraction on the hill of Lakki and at Thapsana.
