Despotiko is the uninhabited islet just off Antiparos that has yielded one of the most significant archaeological sites in the Cyclades — a large Archaic-period sanctuary of Apollo, under excavation since 2001 under Kouragios's direction. Τσιμηντήρι is the local dialectal form of κοιμητήριο (cemetery/burial ground), pointing to a specific funerary area within the site distinct from the sanctuary itself. Twenty-five years of fieldwork is a remarkable milestone for the project.
