As we approach the Christmas holidays, we have scheduled two different days for collecting Kedros (Juniperus macrocarpa) and Fida (Juniperus turbinata) seeds, so that we can create a nursery and seedbed in the new year. The seeds need to remain refrigerated for about one month and should be planted during the cold weather, so these are the last days for collecting them in order to plant in January/February.
Anyone interested in helping and learning about the process is welcome to join us in one or two of the following days and times:
Tuesday 16 December, 10:00–12:00
Sunday 21 December, 10:00–12:00
Meeting point: Xifara. From there, we will walk together to Filizi (10–15 minutes), and then continue to a nearby house for processing the seeds.
If you would like to join us, please send us a private message on Facebook and we will forward you the meeting point pin.
A warm thank you to agronomists Kostas Sifnaios and Nikos Marinakis for sharing their knowledge and methods with us.
The interim committee is working on research and various other matters, and is preparing two meetings: one with the Municipality of Paros and a second with the NECCA Protected Areas Management Unit in Syros, in order to discuss the issues in the area and our proposals for the new year. As soon as we have more information to share we will do so.
