The Chickpea Festival is a two-day summer gastronomic event held in the village of Prodromos on Paros, celebrating the island’s traditional chickpea stew (revithada) and its deep-rooted role in local life.
Established about ten years ago, the festival brings locals and visitors together in a warm, authentic setting. Its goal is to highlight the cultural and culinary value of the chickpea and its traditional preparation in a wood-fired oven—a practice that was central to village life, as the communal oven operated every Saturday until recently, baking chickpea stew for nearly every household.
The celebrations take place in the alleys and small squares of the village, offering a unique and immersive atmosphere. The program includes photo exhibitions, live pottery demonstrations, the cooking of revithada in wood-fired ovens, and lively music and dance evenings.
The first night features violin and lute performances, while the second is led by traditional instruments like the tsambouna (bagpipe) and toumbaki (hand drum), thanks to the generous participation of volunteer musicians. The spirit of the festival lies in participation and community, capturing the essence of everyday life in Prodromos.
👉 In 2025, the festival will take place on Saturday, August 2 and Sunday, August 3. If you're in Paros during those dates, don’t miss this opportunity to experience the authentic flavours and cultural character of the island from the heart of the village.
You will find the detailed program in the second photo above.
